Reflexology is a modern therapy that has been developed over the last 60 years into the treatment that is offered today. Although there are many claims to the fact that it is an ancient form of treatment, it was not until Eunice Ingham mapped the feet and placed the reflexes into a treatable format that the development of Reflexology can be accurately traced. Certainly the feet, hands, face and ears have all been areas of access and treatment throughout history and may have included a similar form of application that we use today in modern Reflexology. The underlying principles of Reflexology should always put the client at the centre of the treatment and while a Reflexologist cannot diagnose we certainly can get an enormous amount of feedback from the feet and that allows us to gain and insight into the clients Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual wellbeing. Classical Foot

Based on the theory that there are Zones running the length of our bodies that are connected by out neural pathways. With the whole body mapped out on the feet and corresponding 'reflexes' identified, a therapist is able to treat the whole body on a small area and can target parts of the body that are not usually available to treat. Removing only your socks and shoes the area of treatment is the sole, top and sides of the feet including the ankles and up the lower leg to the level of your sock line. The client will be gently reclined on a therapy couch or special Reflexology chair, which means that you are well supported and safe at all times. Using a small amount of cream on the feet allows the therapist to move safely over the feet while allowing for appropriate pressure to be used to maximum effect. The treatment can be relaxing and/or stimulating but never the same twice.

Hand

This treatment is identical to the treatment carried out on the feet and the same routine is used. The body is mapped in the same way on the hands and corresponds directly with the Reflex map of the feet. In this way it is possible for the therapist to 'link' reflexes on the hands and feet to enhance treatment. There are differences however due to the physical differences of the hands and feet. Hand treatments can prove more beneficial in certain circumstances as areas of the hands are bigger e.g. The Fingers compared to the toes. The treatment is carried out with a small amount of cream on the hands in order to allow for a smooth and stress free treatment.

Facial

Facial reflexology is a treatment that once tried you cannot get enough of. It is based on the Meridian theory that we have 'energy channels' running throughout our body that can affect all the 4 plains of the body. It can be a deeply relaxing and nurturing treatment and can allow for a gentler introduction to Reflexology. The treatment does not used cream on the face in case of sensitivity although some almond or grape seed oil may be used. This will be discussed with you prior to treatment.

Chi

Introduced and developed by Moss Arnold, an Australian Reflexologist, this therapy is amazing. It too is based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine ingredients of Five Element Theory and Meridian Theory. It is unique in that it does not include 'massage' of the foot but rather employs linking, brushing, stimulation and sedation moves. This can be an extremely powerful and satisfying treatment which can get to the heart of the problem very quickly. It can be adapted as a stand alone therapy or used within other treatments to enhance the client's experience. It does not involve the use of any creams or oils during treatment and only the socks and shoes are removed.

Vertical

Originally developed by Lynne Booth for those who are commonly in wheelchairs this therapy has been adapted for use on everyone. As the name suggest it is done with the client standing up supported by a chair or bench and the therapist on the floor working on your feet. It is a very adaptable therapy and can be carried out in full in 25 to 30 minutes as well as shortened for those on the run. As it employs different methods to classical it can be a fun and simple way to try a new therapy.

Adaptive

This is a Reflexology which was developed by Gunnel Berry, a qualified Physiotherapist in answer to Whiplash and Spinal Injuries in clients. It can diagnose sources of injury and pain and target them very specifically within the spinal region. It is carried out on the feet and can be incorporated into other treatments. As it is a unique therapy it can last from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. It is usually only used in specific and necessary cases.

Thermo Auricular Therapy (Hopi Ear Candles)

This is a fantastic therapy that not only works on the upper respiratory area but also the whole body. The therapy involves placing special 'candles' on the ear to ensure a comfortable fit. The candles are then lit and allowed to burn in the ear under the full supervision of the therapist. The smell and effect are mesmerising and clients often find themselves drifting off to sleep during the treatment. Once each ear has been done the therapist will carry out either a facial massage or a short Reiki treatment for 15 minutes. This adds to the feeling of relaxation and assists the candling process in achieving the best results. If there is one therapy you try let it be this one.

Reiki

Based on the teachings of Dr Usui this is a healing art that goes back many hundreds of years. It is based on the Chakra system of energy and this allows for the balancing and harmonising of the energies within the body. It is carried out fully clothed and with the client lying down. The therapists will gently lay their hands on specific areas of the body and allow the energy to balance and replenish your whole being. It can also be carried out 'hands off' if you prefer. A gentle and replacing therapy that is about the whole person and which puts them at the heart of the treatment.

Emotional Freedom Technique & EmoTrance

This is another therapy that is based on the ancient Meridian Theory which was honed and developed by Gary Craig in the USA. It employs a 'tapping' method on the meridians of the face and upper body while reciting affirmations in order to clear and neutralise the emotional attachments we have to many aches, pains and painful memories. It can be a quick and simple way to deal with stress, pain, fear, worry or anything else you are currently experiencing. It looks a little daft but do not under estimate the value and power that this therapy has to offer. EmoTrance is an advanced technique and will be used where necessary. It is a simple visualisation technique that identifies and removed blocks from the body in a gentle and effective way.

Resonance Therapy

Using Tibetan Singing Bowls the therapist will create a series of sounds and tones that work on the bodies chakra energy systems accessing and re-balancing energy that is out of balance. As with other therapies the aim is to achieve a state of harmony and peace. This can also be an excellent add on to other therapies to utilise and enhance the energy already accessed. Well worth trying as it is extremely relaxing and nurturing.
